From this term, Shule Bora's school meals now include fresh fruits and locally-grown vegetables thanks to our partnership with local farmers.
As part of our ongoing commitment to the holistic wellbeing of every student, Shule Bora Primary School is proud to announce significant improvements to our School Feeding Programme beginning this term. Working in partnership with a cooperative of small-scale farmers from Kibaha and Kisarawe, our school kitchen will now incorporate fresh, seasonal fruits and locally-grown vegetables into the daily lunch menu, replacing the processed alternatives that were previously served.
The enhanced programme means students will now enjoy a balanced midday meal that includes a protein source, a starchy staple, and a serving of fresh vegetables or fruit every school day. Nutrition experts from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) consulted with our kitchen team to design menus that meet the recommended daily nutritional requirements for primary school-aged children. Research consistently shows that well-nourished children concentrate better, retain information more effectively, and are absent from school less frequently due to illness.
School Counsellor Bi. Mary Josephat Mwamba, who championed this initiative, said: "A hungry child cannot learn, and a poorly nourished child cannot thrive. This programme is an investment in our students' health and their academic potential." The school is grateful to the parent body and the School Management Committee for approving the modest increase in the meals levy that makes this enhancement possible. Parents with children who have specific dietary requirements or allergies are asked to contact Bi. Mary directly so appropriate accommodations can be arranged.
